Tobacco giant buys electronic cigarette maker.
British American Tobacco has bought a company that is developing the next generation of electronic cigarettes designed to help smokers to quit.
The purchase of CN Creative yesterday marks the first British acquisition of an e-cigarette company by a one of the big tobacco manufacturers. It came on the day that the European Commission moved to tighten the regulation of smokeless cigarettes.
The acquisition of the Accrington-based start-up for an undisclosed sum comes as the Government is undertaking consultations on whether to license all e-cigarettes in a rapidly growing market.
Kingsley Wheaton, BAT’s director of corporate and regulatory affairs, said.
