Press release – FITA – for immediate release
FITA has taken note of the media report concerning British American Tobacco today. See: https://www.timeslive.co.za/politics/2018-02-19-exclusive-tobacco-giant-usedstate-to-spy/
FITA welcomes the fact that foreign law enforcement agencies have now visibly started to act on the allegations that have been in the public domain for some time now.
FITA members will make themselves available to both the SFO and OLAF in this regard and make available to them any evidence available at their disposal.
FITA believes it is now high time for the South African law enforcement agencies to take note of these developments and be seen to be acting without fear of favour when it comes to allegations implicating British American Tobacco.
Issued by the Fair-trade Independent Tobacco Association: 19 February 2018
